YTB MOVES UP TO 26TH PLACE IN TRAVEL WEEKLY POWER LIST 2008

YTB Travel has moved up in the long awated Travel Weekly 2008 Power List! One year ago, it was big news that YTB was on the Travel Weekly 2007 Power List in the 35th place, but one year later, YTB has moved up nine places from its previous ranking into the 26th spot! This is GREAT NEWS for YTB and for our clients. It only substantiates the fact that YTB is a serious player in the online travel industry, and YTB International is here to stay!

The Travel Weekly article went into detail about some of the challenges YTB faced in 2007, including the loss of YTB's IATA status and having Royal Caribbean Cruiselines refuse to do business with YTB RTAs because of the Company's network marketing business model. This made the fact that the article also listed some of YTB's most prominent accomplishments for 2007 even more astounding. Some of these accomplishments include:

* $414.5 million in sales that YTB had in 2007
* YTB was admitted as a member of the Direct Selling Association
* More than 10,000 attendees (up from 3,200 in the previous year) at the August 2007 national convention
* YTB launched operations in the Bahamas, Bermuda and Canada

For more information about the 2007 accomplishments of YTB be sure to read the Travel Weekly Power List found here:YTB in 26th Place in Travel Weekly's Power List 2008.

Travel Weekly Officials Deny YTB Might Buy Hickory Travel

Although it had been reported on this blog that YTB is considering buying Hickory Travel Systems, it has come to my attention, according to an article posted on Travel Weekly that this information has not been verified. The question is: Will YTB buy Hickory Travel Systems or Not? It looks like we'll just have to wait and see what YTB Travel and Hickory Travel Systems end up doing. Whatever decisions are made, I will be sure to post it here, so stay tuned!

How to Host A Great YTB Travel Party

It's no secret that one of the most effective and successful ways of building your YTB business is by hosting travel parties. The week that you join YTB, you should plan to host your very first, and call it your "Grand Opening"! Every business launch is with a grand opening, and the launch of your new travel and E-commerce business should be no different. Indeed, if you want to really kick it into high gear, you should host two or three grand openings. This way, you make it more possible for your friends, family members and other associates to be able to support you by attending.

So, now that you're sold on having your YTB Grand Opening or Travel (or Vacation) Party, what next?

First, you need to decide when to have the party. To try and accommodate different schedules, especially if you will host more than one, you may want to consider different days of the week and different times of the day. It really doesn't matter as long as you accommodate your guests schedules. That's another advantage to hosting your parties at different times and on different days of the week. Whenever you decide to have it, have fun with it and give it interesting names to peak the interest of your potential guests. For example, you might want to name your party, depending on when you host it, a "Sunday Brunch" party, a "Super Saturday" party, an "Afternoon Delight" party or a "Mid-day Madness" party. Be creative and have fun with it!

Have lots of YTB materials on display and available for handouts. Use YTB magazines, Success magazines, YTB business cards, post cards and any other YTB and travel promotional materials. Your guests should have information that they can take with them about your business when they leave the party.

Next, decide on your party theme. Travel is such a fun product that you won't have any trouble thinking of a great theme. When you're thinking of a theme, think "FUN" and "ENGAGING" but not "EXPENSIVE". You can choose a country, a holiday, a special event like a wedding or engagement or even a cultural celebration. You could even build your theme around a time of year like "Tax Season" or a particular trip that the group you invite to attend will be taking. For example, if your group is planning on taking a "Mystery Train Trip", you can build on that theme by asking participants to bring an item related to the theme or to represent a character. Whatever you do, by having a theme that you communicate to guests, you may be able to get guests more engaged and committed to attending. To help communicate your theme at the party, you can get free travel magazines from most travel vendors or local agencies. These along with some of your personal travel photos and treasures can be used as display items. Remember, your imagination is your only limit.

Who will you invite? This is easy. Apart from inviting your friends, neighbors, church members, work collegues and former or current classmates, use your memory jogger to identify others. For example, you want to include: People who love to travel, people who are ambitious, people who are in sororities, fraternaties, civic and/or social clubs, people you know who hold leadership roles or positions and people that you do or have done business with among others. In other words, invite everyone you know and ask for referrals so you can invite them as well.

Where should your party be held? Ideally, you will host your first party in your home. Since you are inviting the people closest to you, inviting them to join you in your home creates a sense of intimacy. You especially want your family and friends to feel "at home" and comfortable because if they do, they are more likely to be more open to hearing and receiving the information you share with them about your business. However, if you choose to use another venue, the options are virtually endless. You can use a hotel, community center, library, restaurant or any other space where you will not have noise or other distractions.

Try not to put a lot of emphasis on food. When it comes to a party to celebrate your business, less is more, so streamline your offerings. Depending on the time of day and the theme, you may want to have fresh fruit and nuts or chips and dip or coffee and cake. Whatever you decide, you need to keep it simple. In any network marketing business, the key to your success is your ability to be duplicatable. Remember, your guests are also potential future business partners. You want them to see what you do and how you do it, relative to your party, as being something that they can also do. This is critical to your success because duplication is also critical.

Now for the nuts and bolts of the presentation.

Focus on making sure that your party is short, sweet and fun. The travel party should last no longer than an hour and a half at most. When you begin, start with welcoming remarks and introductions. You may want to provide nametags for your guests if they don't all know one another. As part of your introductions, you can help to establish a vacation mindset by asking your guests to close their eyes and envision their dream vacation. Paint a picture for them that will invite them to use all their five senses as they use their imagination. Ask one or two of your guests to share their dream vacation with the group.

The Opening.

When you begin, start by welcoming your guests, thanking them for coming and by telling them why they are there. If it is for your Grand Opening, remind them that they are there to celebrate with you the start of a brand new and exciting chapter of your life.

You may also want to begin by sharing your story. This story can be about you and what motivated and excited you about the business... your "Why". You could have a photo of your "Why" on display to help showcase the real and very important reasons you are in the business to begin with. Remember, your "Why" is your emotional reason for being in the business. Every successful network marketer has a big why. We say, in YTB, that "If your WHY doesn't make you CRY, your WHY isn't big enough. Be sure to have and communicate something about your "Why". You can also share someone else's story or allow the "Circle of Champions" DVD to do that for you. Remember, facts tell but stories sell.

When you get ready to do your presentation, let the DVDs do the work for you of selling them on the business. The DVD found in the "Success at Home" magazine is great. Also, playing the testimonials of one or two of the people found in the Circle of Champions DVD is also beneficial. At the conclusion of the presentation, you simply need to close.

The Close.

In your close, start by reinterating the benefits of YTB: Travel, Tax, Financial Rewards unlike any other business of its kind. Then, explain that after seeing the presentation, you are going to ask everyone in the room to make a decision about where they see themselves. Using a number system, with 1 being people who liked what they saw want their own travel and E-commerce business or 2 = people who like what they saw but prefer to only be your customers. Go around the room and allow each person to tell you his or her preference. You should have printed out travel business forms that your new business partners (#1) will complete. Ideally, if you have someone to assist you, you can go ahead and get their business websites set up, schedule an orientation for them and get on their calendar for their Grand Opening. For your new customers, you should also request that they assist you by hosting travel parties in their home for you. Be sure to follow-up with them to schedule a date.

To make the Grand Opening even more fun, you may want to have some vacation vouchers on hand that you reward your new business partners with. Just be creative, but most of all, have lots of fun!

Have a fantastic YTB Travel Party!

YTB Canada FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Due to the rigid regulatory climate in Canada, YTB is required to operate differently than it does in the United States. It is imperative that all YTB management, RTAs and Reps in the field know and understand the differences in order for YTB to adequately and legally conduct business in Canada. Accordingly, and in preparation for the upcoming YTB launch into Canada on February 8, 2008, the following FAQs were created for distribution.

This document is key to understanding the majority of these differences and consequently, the limitations imposed on RTAs in Canada: The current travel regulations are not equipped to handle the sale of internet travel as it is sold pursuant to YTB's business model. Consequently, if RTAs are considered to be travel agents, they will be subject to licensure and regulations. In Canada, it is important to remember that RTAs are directing their friends and family to a website where a customer can go to purchase travel, rather than selling travel directly.

The majority of the differences have to do with the way travel is sold. The network marketing component of YTB is virtually unchanged. The following FAQ highlights the similarities and differences our Reps and RTAs will notice.

Canadian Reps

1. Compensation Plan

Q: Is the compensation plan the same?

A: Yes.

The $50 Direct Sale Commission, $50 PowerTeam Commission, 6 Generation DreamTeam Commissions, Residual Commission and the 50% Match of these commissions remain the same.
And the qualifications to override remain the same as well.

2. Bonuses

Q: Are the $1,000 LeaderShip Bonuses earned the same way?

A: Yes.

Just like the US, a $1,000 LeaderShip Bonus is earned when the total PowerTeam enrolled RTAs grows by 6.
Q: Is the $10,000 Bonus?

A: Yes.

100 active PowerTeam enrolled RTAs triggers a $10,000 Bonus. And you can still earn as many of these as you can qualify for.
Q: Do the RTAs have to be from the same country to count?

A: No.

It doesn't matter where the RTAs live. You qualify for each of these bonuses with all RTAs enrolled by your PowerTeam, regardless of their country of residence.
3. Directors Program

Q: Do RTAs from other countries count toward Director?

A: Yes.

All RTAs count toward promotions for each Director level.
Q: Are the Directors Revenue Sharing checks the same?

A: Yes.

Level 1 is still $2,000 per month, levels 2 - 5 are revenue sharing with the same monthly minimums as are currently in place.
Q: Are the one time bonuses for Level 2 and above the same

A: Yes. These bonuses are paid in discounted stock options regardless of where the Director lives.

Q: Are the insurance benefits the same?

A: Yes and No.

Life insurance of $150,000 is awarded at Level 1 Director but the Blue/Cross Blue/Shield health insurance is not available in Canada.
4. Direct Sales License/Permit for Reps

Q: What is a Direct Sales License/Permit and what are the requirements?

A: Reps in six provinces of Canada,(Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Northwest Territories and Nunavut), must obtain a license/permit in order to participate in business involving direct sales. For example, in Nova Scotia the cost of a permit is $46.40 and must be renewed annually. More information concerning the other provinces, their fees and regulations are to follow.

5. YTB Identification Cards

Q: Are there any identification requirements for Reps?

A: Yes.

Reps are required to carry an Independent Marketing Representative (IMR) card in Alberta and Saskatchewan, which will be available for download in the back office.
6. Marketing Materials

Q: Can I use YTB U.S. marketing materials in Canada?

A: You may not use any U.S. marketing materials in Canada; however, Canadian marketing materials will be available in the back office for download and printing at no cost. Initially, we will have the Compensation Brochure and the Leader's Bulletin available. We are in the process of developing additional marketing materials for Canada.

7. Genealogy

Q: Will the genealogy appear differently when other countries are included?

A: All Reps will appear in the same genealogy with their U.S. counterparts.

8. Income Summary Disclosure

Q: What is an Income Summary Disclosure and when do I need to distribute it?

A: The Income Summary Disclosure document will be available in the Welcome Kit and from the web site. It contains information regarding income earned by RTAs and Reps. Although this document will be available on the company website, a hard copy must be provided to EVERY individual attending any meeting where YTB's business plan is presented in Canada.

9. Currency

Q: What currency will be used in Canada?

A: The Canadian dollar is the official currency of YTB Canada. All payments between YTB and its Canadian Reps will be made in Canadian dollars

Q: Will the YTB Paycard be used in Canada?

A: At this time, the YTB Paycard is not available for use in Canada. All commissions will be sent in the form of a paper check.

10. Provinces and Territories

Q: In which provinces and territories will YTB launch on February 8

A: YTB will launch in all provinces and territories on February 8th with the exception of Quebec. Because of the potential consequences of operating in Quebec relating to the travel industry and travel sales, YTB will not launch in that province initially. YTB will strictly enforce that there can be no Rep or RTA enrollment or activity, or sale of travel in Quebec. YTB will continue to pursue a legal course to meet the travel sales requirements of the Quebec regulatory authorities.

Canadian RTAs

1. Terminology

Q: Will the term "RTA" have the same meaning in Canada as it does in the U.S.?

A: We will continue to use the same acronym "RTA"; however, in Canada the term RTA will stand for Referring Travel Affiliate. The words "agent," "agency," "employee," "travel," and "store" must NOT appear in any website, literature, presentations, marketing or training materials.

2. Limitations on RTAs

Q: What limitations will be implied by the exclusion of using "agent," "agency," "employee," "travel," and "store?" How will this affect business practices in Canada?

A: RTAs should not represent themselves as travel agents, nor can they act in a way that implies they are agents. For this reason, all business must be conducted solely through the travel website. An RTA is not allowed to take any direct action on behalf of the customers, this includes the following:

a. RTAs may not deal directly with suppliers;

Is YTB A Pyramid Scheme?

When I was fortunate enough to be introduced to and join YTB about a year and a half ago, I had no idea how many times I would be confronted about whether or not YTB is a pyramid scheme or not. It didn't matter whether or not I was talking to friends, family or complete strangers about the company, this question always seemed to surface. So I thought it would be a good idea to start this blog by addressing this issue. Is YTB a Pyramid Scheme?

First, I think we must define exactly what we're talking about when we use this term. As its name indicates, the pyramid scheme is structured like a pyramid with one person, the initial recruiter, at the top. This person recruits a second person, who is required to "invest" "X" amount of money that must be paid to the initial recruiter. In order to make his or her money back, the new recruit must also recruit more people under him or her, each of whom will also have to invest money. The process continues until the base of the pyramid is no longer strong enough to support the upper structure because there are no more recruits.

In short, when speaking of a pyramid scheme, most people will say that: 1. You must recruit others to join the company in order to make any money at all, and 2. Only the people at the top make money while those at the bottom spend and lose money.

This is indeed a pyramid scheme, but what some people may not know is that it illegal. It is a fraudulent means of getting people to pay money into a company or business enterprise with the promise of getting unusually high returns, but without giving them anything of substance for the money that they invested. In other words, not only is running a pyramid scheme against the law, but one way of clearly determining if a business is a pyramid scheme is by evaluating the product.

The questions that need to be asked are: 1. Does the company provide a product or service in exchange for the investment received? 2. Is the product or service truly valuable and worth the investment? In short, if there are no substantive products or services offered for the investment, the business very likely falls into the "pyramid scheme" or "scam" category. Conversely, if the company does provide a viable product or service, it is not likely to be a pyramid scheme or scam.

Now that we understand what a pyramid scheme is, back to our question: Is YTB a Pyramid Scheme? Why not evaluate it to see.

1. YTB is a publicly traded company. Why is this significant? Because since pyramid schemes are illegal and not legitimate businesses, they cannot be publicly traded. As a publicly traded company, YTB is tightly scrutinized by the Securities Exchange Commission. One of the duties of the SEC is to ensure that the companies that they regulate uphold the highest ethical standards possible for the protection of investors. This year, YTB's application was approved to be listed on the American Stock Exchange. This approval further substantiates the credibility of YTB as a legitimate and legal corporate enterprise.

2. YTB offers substantive products to sell. The YTB product includes seven travel business websites which include:
a. Marketing
b. Travel Booking Engine
c. Sporting Events, Concerts & Theater Tickets
d. YTB Flowers
e. YTB Cars
f. YTB Golf
g. Honeymoon Registry

These products that the YTB business owner receives is a business unto itself, opening the way for consumers to make purchases of the same products from the same suppliers that they would be buying anyway, and paying the business owner up to 60% of the commissions.

3. Recruiting is not the only way to make money in YTB. The YTB companies offer two unique and powerful business opportunities, that of referring travel agent or "RTA" and that of independent marketing representative or "REP". The travel agent opportunity has an initial fee under $500 and a monthly license fee of $49.95. There is no fee or travel agency purchase required to be a REP. You may choose to participate in one or both opportunities. If anyone joins YTB and chooses to focus solely on the travel side of the business, they can make a great living by selling vacation packages, cruises and many other travel-related products. You can also earn commissions simply by pointing people to your websites to book their own travels. The key to success in YTB, as in any legitimate business, is to treat the business as a business and not as a "get rich quick scheme." If you do this, a lot of money can be made on both or either side of the business.

4. YTB is an approved member of the DSA. On September 18, 2007, the Board of Directors of the Direct Selling Association (DSA) approved the membership applications of 11 direct selling companies, including the one submitted by YTB! YTB has met all requirements necessary for full membership in the association. As part of those requirements, the DSA reveiwed YTB's marketing and business plans to ensure compliance with all provisions of DSA's Code of Ethics.

"The members of the Direct Selling Association pride themselves in their commitment to the highest standards in business ethics," said DSA's President Neil Offen. "By applying for membership in the association and going through a rigorous approval process, these companies are saying they take their ethical obligations to their field salesforce and to the ultimate customer seriously and are willing to make a public pledge to that effect."DSA's Code of Ethics gives the direct selling industry one of the strongest self-regulatory codes in business today. All member companies are not only required to comply with the Code to be admitted to the association, but must also continue to uphold and promote the Code as a condition of continuing membership in the association. DSA's Code is enforced by an independent code administrator who investigates and prescribes remedies in response to salesforce and consumer complaints against member companies. The Code itself includes provisions requiring truthful disclosure of product information regarding price, grade, quality, quantity and availability. The Code expressly prohibits pyramid schemes, deceptive or unlawful consumer or recruiting practices, misrepresentation of earning or sales potential, inventory loading and unreasonable entrance fees. DSA is the national trade association of the leading firms that manufacture and distribute goods and services sold directly to consumers. Among its more than 220 active and pending members are companies selling both via a party-plan method and in the traditional person-to-person style. In 2006, U.S. direct sales were more than $32 billion with more than 15.2 million direct sellers nationwide. The vast majority are independent business people - micro-entrepreneurs - whose purpose is to sell the product/service of the company they voluntarily choose to represent. Approximately 90 percent of direct sellers operate their business part-time. For more information on direct selling, visit the DSA website at http://www.dsa.org.

So the short answer about YTB is that while it, like most businesses and organizations including corporations, churches, the military, nonprofit organizations, etc. has a pyramid STRUCTURE, it IS NOT a pyramid SCHEME. There is a world of difference between the two.
